Innovation Plan

Disruptive Innovation is not a single event an evolution a continuous power that promotes change

Creating a Disruptive Innovation Plan - Recognizing opportunities

In this page, you will find all the elements that form my disruptive innovation plan. In creating it, I have developed a collection of materials and experiences that will support us as innovators in the future. This plan, like everything, started with an idea that was not clearly structured but that has been evolving and growing in the course of a few weeks. This idea was born from my own experience writing a blog and the learning that has come with its use. After researching and reading many articles and studies, I recognized all the benefits that blogging brings to the classroom and how hundreds of students around the world successfully use blogs as a digital portfolio that they can carry with them after their high school years to showcase their abilities for universities or potential employers. We can not let go of this disruptive opportunity, let’s implement it together!

Recognizing Opportunities

According to the Christensen Institute, “disruptive innovations are not breakthrough technologies that make good products better; rather they are innovations that make products and services more accessible and affordable, thereby making them available to a much larger population.”  In education, disruptive innovation is not much different than that. It is not about improving what already exists but about creating something new, solving needs that up to today seemed very difficult to satisfy and generating new ways to do things. The big question now is, how can we recognize more disruptive innovation opportunities, how can we realize that they are there, available. How can we be proactive about them instead of reactive? How can we use them as stimulation for the change?  The answer is keeping ourselves informed and up to speed with the latest trends. I invite you all to do some research, reading and reviewing literature are activities that should become part of our daily life if we want to discover the next great idea worth to continue creating the so long wished educational change for the good of our kids.

A recommended reading list to look for innovative ideas include the following items:

The NMC Horizon Project. global ongoing research initiative that explores the trends, challenges, and technology developments likely to have an impact on teaching, learning, and creative inquiry.

The Meeker’s Internet Trends. The most expected annual document that reflects the behavior and trends of technology usage every year.

Educause Library. The preeminent clearing house for information about timely topics and research supporting the use and management of technology in higher education.
